I took over three hundred pictures of my Calico and Mille Fleur bantam Cochins yesterday! I've got more chicks hatching (under hens) every week and several of my "Flock Improvement Group" pullets are now in with the breeding flock as well. They are all sired by Cracker Jack so I am excited to see what their chicks will look like...
Senior Calico breeding Rooster:
"Cracker Jack"
Junior Calico breeding Cock:
"Ice"
CJ and Ice are the two boys in with my breeding hens and pullets.
Here are some of the girls:
CJ with a Java daughter...
Ice with some of the young chicks.
I love how gentle Cochin roosters are with the chicks.
Any boy caught picking on babies or hens or pullets immediately gets tossed into the 'bachalor pen'.
I will not breed a mean rooster!
One of the FIG pullets.
She is sired by CJ and out of a show quality, black/mottled hen.
Another FIG pullet:
(CJ x Buff Columbian hen)
CJ hard at work!
5 week old pullet:
A nice looking chick...
(about 3 weeks)
Obviously, I have lots more pictures.
How about I save some for tomorrow?
;-)
Tomorrow: Daisy (the Tabby-co cat) dust bathing with the chickens...

These amaze me. I never knew chickens could be so beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy and Linda!
ReplyDeletecracker jack certainly is nice looking, and i really dont know anything about chickens!! i love seeing the little ones mingled in with the big ones out in the grass though, and i LOVE that you weed out the mean boys :)
ReplyDeleteLove all the pics. You have amazing colors of chickens. I bought some little black Cochin banty babies a while back. Their feathers are turning partridge on neck and wings, some are getting white splashed chests. I love chickens! Looking forward to more pics of yours.
