Deworming the chickens...

It's not quite as bad as you may think!
In fact, I rather enjoy deworming my chickens.
Just as much as I do deworming my sheep!

You see...

I use PUMPKINS!

The seeds from pumpkins are a natural dewormer.

The chickens (and the sheep) LOVE them!

I actually plant a large pumpkin patch
JUST for the sheep and chickens.
Then again, I also plant a bunch of tomato plants just for the chickens!

Which they seem to appreciate VERY much!

sigh!
A shepherdess/chicken farmer's work is never done...

  1. Nancy, another wonderful tip from you. I had no idea and I love it. I am going to buy my little ones some pumpkins to eat now. Thanks so much.

  2. I've heard that fresh pine needles are a natural dewormer for goats. Mine get plenty, and their fecals come back clean, but I don't know if there's a connection. What do you think?

  3. I've read that pine needles are good for repelling external parasites but not heard of using them for internal ones. I guess it does seem logical...

Does anyone else know about this?

  4. I had read that before and am glad to see you verifying it.
We will definitely plant pumpkins for our animals when we have some. :)

  5. I give our chickens pumpkins too. Never heard of pine needles being used as wormers. Sounds good. You have the cutest chickens!
