Poor Oprah!
I've noticed, over the past month or so, that she appeared to be losing weight.
She's also staying in the barn much more than usual.
I was getting worried.
I thought she was dying.
Normally, Oprah and Goldilocks look like identical twins.
That's Goldilocks above. You can barely see Oprah's head behind her.
They certainly don't look like twins, NOW!
They WERE the same size.
POOR OPRAH!
The good news is:
Oprah's not dying.
She's not shrinking.
She's MOLTING!
Maybe I should put a heat lamp in their coop?

LOL. Yeah, they look terrible when they molt, that's for sure. I always laugh when people have never seen them take a dust bath before too...."Are they dead/dying?" lol :) Ahhh the joys of chickens :)
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw serious dust bathing, I thought the hen was having a seizure!
ReplyDelete;-)
It IS hard to believe they are the same size under those feathers!
ReplyDeleteI have some that lose every last bit of extra weight when they molt. I worry every year till they are finished and start gaining that weight again. "Bones" is one of them and is in the later stages of her molt. I hope I don't have any that molt this year in the dead of winter.
ReplyDelete~~Matt~~
They look soo sickly when they are molting!! All of ours have molted for the year... but one and it's been snowing! Goodness! Funny how much weight they lose, when you really look at it.
ReplyDeleteBlessing,
The Chicken Keepers
Poor Oprah, she looks so embarrassed!
ReplyDeleteOne of our turkey hens moulted in early November - and it was a quick molt! She was almost naked in the cold, and everyone who saw her thought she was sick and/or dying. Within a couple days all the pinfeathers started poking out and she looked like a pincushion. Now, just a couple weeks later, she looks like a prize winner, beautiful new feathers and proud carriage. It's amazing.
ReplyDeletedon't tell the 'real' Oprah that...just kidding!
